North's New Tree: A Welcoming Symbol

North's New Tree: A Welcoming Symbol
North

A new tree was planted in the field behind North School last week, serving as a welcome symbol to all in the community.

The tree planting event is in conjunction with a book the entire school is reading together as part of the One School, One Story Reading Program.

All North families received a copy of the book Wishtree by Katherine Applegate earlier in the year.

Ms. Torres, LMC Specialist, said that Wishtree is a story about kindness, hope, and the value of welcoming others.

During the tree planting event, Ms. Jensen, a University of Illinois Master Naturalist, with the help of Mr. Fratamico, a maintenance team member, showed the students the proper way to plant a tree to ensure that it will thrive.

Mrs. Jensen talked about the importance of protecting the tree's roots and making sure the hole it is planted in is the correct size.

After the tree was planted, the students had the chance to plant Grecian Windflower anemones around the area.

The tree will serve as a symbol of the school's commitment to welcoming others to the community.
