Popular Children's Author Visits North's Fifth Graders!

North Elementary School fifth graders in Mr. Lisy's class had a chance to speak to New York Times best-selling children's author, Deborah Diesen via Zoom last week.

The visit was the result of one of Mr. Lisy's students reaching out to the author herself and asking if she would visit their class virtually.

Ms. Diesen is the author of many children's books, including The Pout-Pout Fish, Bloom, Hello Fall, Sing Some More, Equality's Call and more.

During the virtual visit she read her popular book "The Pout-Pout Fish" to the class.

After the reading, Ms. Diesen opened the room up to any questions the students had.

All of the students had written down questions ahead of time and they were excited to talk to her.

Questions included: Who was the first person to read your first book? What book was the hardest to write? Are you going to write more books?

Ms. Diesen was happy and excited to answer all of their questions.

The students learned about the writing process from start to finish, including the creation of the illustrations.

The class was surprised to hear that the entire process could take a couple of years from start to finish, even for a shorter children's book.

There are plans for Ms. Diesen to speak to the students again at the end of the school year!
