Did you know there was such a thing as Mud Day? It started in 2009 as a project between Australia and Nepal. Now, people worldwide use this day to reap the health and educational benefits of playing in the mud.
Come join us at the Izaak Walton League (1841 S. River Road) to get down and dirty!

This event includes live entertainment on two stages, local restaurants serving their specialties, beer tents, and fun for the whole family.
Listen to live music beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday, June 19, and 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, and don’t forget to stop by our photo op. Kick off your summer by grabbing a bite to eat and listening to live music at Taste of Des Plaines!

Celebrate Father’s Day with a tradition that brings generations together on the green. The Dad & Me Annual Golf Tournament returns for 2026, inviting dads, granddads and their favorite “Me” to team up for a fun and friendly morning of competition.
This 9 hole tournament begins with a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start and features an alternate shot format, where teammates take turns throughout the round.
The team with the lowest combined score will take home the 2026 Dad & Me Tournament Trophy. Hole Contests and Prizes will be awarded in two brackets, one for participants under 18 and another for over 18.
Meet us at the Izaak Walton League for a guided walk through the woods. Afterwards, we'll make a craft using buckthorn, an invasive species the IWLA has been working hard to eliminate.
This is a drop-off program and requires a signed consent form.

Bring your blankets and lawn chairs to watch the fireworks extravaganza among your neighbors to celebrate the holiday! Dance to the DJ and play yard games with family and friends before the fireworks show illuminates the sky.
Admission is free.
This event is weather dependent and updates will be communicated through our Facebook page at facebook.com/cityofdesplaines.
No alcohol is permitted on Oakton property and novelty fireworks including sparklers are prohibited. Bringing pets to this event is strongly discouraged.
Gates open at 7 p.m. and the fireworks show begins at dusk (approximately 9:15 p.m.). This year's show will feature an extended finale to celebrate 250 years. Entry to Oakton College will be off Golf Rd. only. There is no parking allowed in the lanes of, grassy areas, or unpaved areas on College or Circle Drives. Accessible parking is available in Lot A. Please have your parking placard available to show the parking attendants upon arrival.
Please note that the riding of bicycles, e-bikes, or other electric devices (such as scooters), is not permitted within the event space. Bike racks are located in Lot D.

Enjoy a varied and engaging program featuring classics, lively Sousa marches, contemporary concert band favorites, popular hits, and memorable movie scores performed by this talented community ensemble.

This beloved tradition includes community floats, live music and strolling entertainment. The parade is a great way to enjoy the holiday with neighbors and is fun for the whole family. We are eager to celebrate with you all!
The parade will step off at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 4, at the intersection of Center Street and Wicke Avenue.
The parade will proceed north on Center to Prairie Ave., will head east on Prairie and then disband at Prairie and Pearson St. The announcing station and review stand are located at Algonquin and Center, and Thacker and Center, respectively.
Please note that the roads in the immediate area may be closed to accommodate parade traffic. Center St. will be closed from Wicke Ave. to Prairie Ave, and Prairie Ave. will be closed from Center St. to Pearson St. for the duration of the parade. We appreciate your patience and look forward to seeing you there!
Parade reminders:
-Inspect all candy before your children eat it and don't eat until you get home. If any candy falls onto the street, leave it there! Do not step onto the parade route.
-The street is considered the parade route. All attendees must remain behind the curbline throughout the duration of the parade to allow event vehicles to proceed safely down the route.
